Ranking Every Final Fantasy Composer

28. Bill Kiley

Works: XV: A King’s Tale

A King's Tale is one of the most obscure games in the series. A side scroller released as a bonus for players who pre-ordered XV from selected retailers, it can be completed in about two hours.

As a result of this small size, the game’s soundtrack is miniscule, coming in at just 12 tracks in total. All of them were composed by Bill Kiley, who was seemingly tasked with putting together something without hearing the work of or getting any assistance from the XV team.

The result of this was a fairly unique but unremarkable sound. The influences from yesteryear, which complemented the game’s old school sprite graphics, were clear, with the likes of ‘Title Screen’ and ‘Insomnia’ harkening back to classic Final Fantasies.

Given that few played the game, fewer still will have heard the soundtrack in full. Kiley has a limited discography and online profile, so it seems unlikely that he’d return for another project. He’ll always have the distinction of being the first Westerner asked to compose for a non-film entry in the series though.
