Ranking Every Final Fantasy Composer

27. Hidenori Iwasaki

Works: CC: The Crystal Bearers

The Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles subseries has been largely forgotten since its last entry eleven years ago. Made up of six games in total, its gameplay quality was average to poor in most cases, which had an impact on its soundtracks.

The series' lowpoint was undoubtedly its final entry, The Crystal Bearers, which Hidenori Iwasaki was brought in to compose for, putting together 70 tracks in total.

Some of his pieces, including ‘This Is The End For You’ and ‘The Awakened Beast’ are enjoyable listens, but all have drifted into obscurity over time given the mediocrity of the experience that they accompanied.

Predominantly employed as a synthesiser prior to the game’s release, Iwasaki’s efforts were hugely diverse in terms of genre even if they didn’t really hit the mark. He would’ve presumably been given the opportunity to keep working on Crystal Chronicles titles had the subseries kept going, having been given the call to oversee the remastering of the original game’s soundtrack this year.
