Ranking Every Final Fantasy Composer

23. Tsuyoshi Sekito

Works: VII Remake, VII: Advent Children, XIV, Explorers

Now that it has been over a decade since Square-Enix opted to use just a single composer on a major release (XIII), it would appear that the use of a large body of musicians is a given. Look at just how many, major and minor, musicians were utilised for XV and VII Remake

One of the many individuals roped in to put together the soundtrack for the latter was Tsuyoshi Sekito, who has been with Square-Enix since 1995. Aside from contributing a single track to Advent Children (‘Materia’) and XIV (the light-hearted ‘Into The Adder’s Den’), his experience had been solely as an arranger until he got the call to score Explorers.

Explorers was a dreadful game and Sekito was limited to the production of just 33 tracks, with efforts like ‘Neverending Journey’ and ‘Rainbow Skies’ amongst the few highlights. His contribution to VII Remake was then limited to just two tracks, one of them being the glitzy ‘Scarlet’s Theme’.

Sekito’s best work is outside of Final Fantasy, playing guitar for the Black Mages and scoring the underrated Brave Fencer Musashi, but he remains a dependable pair of hands to support whoever is in vogue from a musical standpoint.
