Ranking EVERY Main Resident Evil From Worst To Best
4. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Following RE6, it felt like one more wrong move would spell disaster for Resident Evil overall. Thankfully, Capcom doesn't give up quite so easily.
When The Kitchen demo hit and it was clear this was the direction Resident Evil was going, hope was very much restored. The hard 180 turn from saving the world as series mainstays to just trying to rescue your partner and make it out alive is precisely what was needed.
Ditching the third-person perspective and leaning into an Amnesia or PT vibe was the fresh coat of paint Resident Evil was crying out for. Sneaking around a large family estate out in the swamps felt like RE meets True Detective, and with the shift to first-person, enemies were able to take Ethan and the player by surprise all over again.
Despite being so removed from core Resident Evil, there are just enough easter eggs to find if you look hard enough that root it seamlessly within the greater world. Yes, the story ends with a cameo to confirm that this isn't just a reboot or side venture, just encase that wasn't clear.
The future is looking hopeful for Resident Evil. Terrifying, but hopeful. There is an alternative timeline where this game was never made and Resident Evil became a full-on loot-grinding action-adventure series, so we should all be thankful that didn't happen.
