Ranking EVERY Main Resident Evil From Worst To Best
1. Resident Evil 4
It takes a lot of courage to take something that works, rip out almost everything that was recognisable from before and basically start from scratch. Well just like Capcom did many years later with RE7, they first took the leap with the 4th game in the numbered canon.
Zombies are gone, Raccoon City is nothing more than a hole in the ground, and the Redfields were off dealing with Wesker. So when the president's daughter is somehow abducted by a cult located in rural Spain, it is up to now international agent Leon S. Kennedy to save her.
Hideki Kamiya and Shinji Mikami didn't just reinvent Resident Evil, but the entire third-person shooter genre. What is now standard such as a fixed over-shoulder perspective was perfected in Resident Evil 4. Not only that, but by giving the player the ability to free aim meant specific limbs could be targeted. Firing endlessly in a single direction with the dice roll of a headshot was a thing of the past.
It can't be said enough that Resident Evil 4 changed the game, for not only the series, but gaming going forward. The RE2 Remake is a fantastic, bar-setting followup in every regard, but it wouldn't even exist without Resident Evil 4.
