12. Resident Evil 5
After Resident Evil 4 caught the industry by storm the franchise was a hot fresh new property once again. Zombies were out and Raccoon City was a distant memory as Resident Evil 5 followed Chris Redfield and Sheva trying to stop the global saturation of Uroboros.
Once again a new setting with some familiar characters was on the menu as a comically ripped Chris would be sent to Africa by the BSAA to combat BOWs, but little did he know that Albert Wesker was heading up this new viral venture. After fighting through slums, embarking on forced turret sequences across the plains of Africa and punching a boulder into the volcano it was clear this game was going for something a little different.
This wasn't a solo experience by a long shot. Even if played alone Chris was always accompanied by Sheva which really dumbed down the scare level for many.
Despite some early claims of Resident Evil 5 had racist elements, the game was overall successful, but an even larger departure from what drew fans to the franchise in the first place. That didn't mean this game was a cake walk even with a partner at all times as ammo was scarce and inventory spaces extremely limited. This was the last time the series would truly be rooted in both old and the new Resident Evil.
