Ranking Every Neversoft Tony Hawk Game From Worst To Best

8. Proving Ground

Tony Hawks Games
Activision

The final outing from Neversoft in the franchise released to very middling reviews. Whilst retaining a lot of what made the series great, the game brought very little to the table that fans hadn't seen previously.

The series was also facing a new opponent and it wasn’t winning the battle. EA’s Skate series was performing extremely well and gave players a more realistic experience with more interesting game mechanics and better multiplayer capabilities.

Despite the lack of innovation, Proving Ground was generally considered enjoyable. The only real change came with the introduction of different types of skaters, split into three categories.

Career skaters were your standard pros, offering a technical style with a focus on precision and flair. For this, the game adapted the ‘Nail the Trick’ feature from Project 8, expanding it to manuals and grab tricks. Next up was Riggers, whose abilities showcased the versatility of the areas. Riggers would be able to move environmental objects such yo create new skate lines, or assist in off board activities. Finally, hardcore skaters offered an aggressive style, including the ability to attack NPCs.

Unlike previous instalments, Proving Ground required players to progress with the storyline before certain features were unlocked.
