5. Demon's Souls

You have to admire the stones on Sony, releasing a console and the only first-party exclusive available is the punishingly brutal Demon's Souls.

Still, this is as immaculate as immaculate gets. While Demon's core gameplay - down to frame data and the geo-meshes of the environments themselves - is beholden to the 2009 original, Bluepoint's work on any remaster is second to none.

Gameplay-wise this does retroactively suffer from being FromSoftware's first foray into the genre that would change everything about third-person combat across the 2010s. Where Dark Souls truly took off, Demon's still has some awesome intertwining level designs and memorable encounters, but its boss design is nowhere near as replayable or outright enjoyable as what would come next.

Still, Demon's Souls has remained a cult classic for a reason. Adding one of the best visual presentations of all time only makes it more recommendable, amping up an already stellar RPG with deep, differentiable character classes.
