Ranking EVERY SoulsBorne Game From Worst To Best
5. Demon's Souls
This dread-filled and taxing cult classic started the whole Soulsborne craze - but how does the title hold up ten years later?
Unfortunately, Demon's definitely shows its age.
With rigid controls, buggy design and a handful of flawed mechanics that thankfully did not make a return in later entries, at present this early title feels like a rough-edged launching pad for the revered Dark Souls, rather than a milestone in its own right.
Still, there’s no denying it contains an incredible atmosphere that has rarely been equalled. The haunting world of Boletaria is both tragic, yet frightening, beautifully designed yet chillingly repulsive. Overall, the lore and style make it one of the most distinct across the entire series to this day.
Regardless of its formula being improved and reworked with every Soulsborne, props must be paid to the one that came first. Demon's Souls was a brave, groundbreaking gaming experience.
The cracks are certainly showing, but it more than deserves your respect.
