Ranking EVERY SoulsBorne Game From Worst To Best
1. Bloodborne
It's common for Soulsborne fans to not be able to agree on anything, so this might be controversial - but personally, the loosely-linked series has never been better than with this horror spin on the genre.
It was controversial due to tossing out more vast customisation options, then forcing the player to go forth in one method and one method only - fast and aggressive.
Yet, this wasn't limiting. Gameplay threw up it is middle-finger and dared you to keep up. If you could, you were rewarded with one hell of a ride.
The switch from dark fantasy to grimy horror pulp was exhilarating and unorthodox; the ghouls were not just tough but down-right repulsive, in turn, feeling near impossible. But once you mastered the quick dodge, and learned the risk/reward scenario of Regain, you would soon be leaping headlong into Lovecraftian monstrosities without a second thought.
Yes, the recent Sekiro was a welcome rework of the Soulsborne formulae, but its subversion bends the game into something almost completely new in itself. Bloodborne walks the perfect line of paying homage to its inspiration, whilst bringing plenty original to the table.
Add to that the best lore, boss battles and world design, and you have a downright masterpiece experience.
