Ranking EVERY Wolfenstein Game From Worst To Best
4. Wolfenstein 3D
After the longest break, the series would take and after Muse Software passed the torch, id software along with John Romero and John Carmack would change video games forever.
Commonly known as the Grandfather of Shooters, Wolfenstein 3D is the nucleus from where all first person shooter derives from - it really can't be overstated how important this title is to the overall Wolfenstein series and video games today.
Gone were the stealth elements of the prior two Muse instalments because Wolfenstein 3D is all for gun-blazing action as B.J. Blazkowicz continues his never ending conflict with the ultimate evil, the Nazis.
Sure this is at a stretch a "3D" shooter, as the map only really serves as the extra dimensions, whilst enemies, items and the decorum are all exclusively 2D sprites. In its heyday and even now its mind-boggling that both the Johns were able to get this out to consumers.
Also, don't think a 4th position is any knock to game's legacy. Almost everything that came after would carry the Wolfenstein name with honour, and you need look no further to see why the franchise has withstood generations.
