Ranking January & February 2015’s Video Games From Worst To Best
3. The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D
The most controversial entry in Zelda's canon thanks to a time-sensitive mechanic that still straight-up ends the game if you've not managed to hit the rewind prompt fast enough, Majora's Mask makes a far easier return on the 3DS, taking on board the same design ethos the remastered Ocarina did and ensnaring thousands of new fans in the process. Essentially birthing the genre of Roguelikes through the idea of progression by way of incremental advances through a overarching quest before resetting and trying again, the core feel of MM is completely different to that of the others in the series, especially given its more free-wheeling explorative nature is one of the biggest draws to the franchise overall. Like Mass Effect 3, narratively there's little reason to dawdle when the world's ending in the next few days, and for some players they'll just not be able to get past that. For the rest though, like Ocarina's remaster there's plenty on offer, from trademark Nintendo-polish when it comes to frame rate and animation to memorable character designs and enjoyable levels that flow out in front of you. There's much to complain about if you're not okay with the whole time-sensitive aspect of things, but for those that are, an against-the-clock Zelda might be the exact thing to really rattle your bones.
