Ranking The Games & Movies Of Kingdom Hearts: All-in-One Package Worst To Best

8. Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue

Kingdom Hearts All In One Package
Square Enix

This is another interesting entry in the Kingdom Hearts saga. A Fragmentary Passage is sort of like a DLC entry. It tells an additional story, runs on the same engine as Kingdom Hearts III, and it’s much shorter with an average playthrough clocking in at 3 hours.

However, it was released before Kingdom Hearts III, was part of the collection disc Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and manages to be an epilogue to Birth by Sleep while also being a side-story to Kingdom Hearts 1 and a prologue to Kingdom Hearts III. In other words, it’s very Kingdom Hearts.

While the game itself is ultimately a glorified tech demo for Kingdom Hearts III, as far as glorified tech demos go it's good for the fans. It will get players hyped by showcasing the new engine, capable of previously unseen levels of beauty. If looks aren't enough, the side-story it presents with Aqua is interesting and a story worth telling.

Picking up during Aqua’s time trapped in the realm of darkness for 10 years after Birth by Sleep, it showcases her finding purpose again. In its short campaign it can be surprisingly moving - even when she’s being overly mopey.

That said, it’s still a DLC/tech-demo/whatever you want to call it. It’s not really a game. Yeah, it’s great revisiting old locations in these glorious Unreal Engine visuals, it's good to see Aqua again, and it gives a chance to test the new engine. That said, it’s not breaking any Kingdom Hearts barriers to make it crack anywhere near the top. But it’s on the All-in-One Package, so we have to acknowledge it.
