7. Know When To Dodge, And Aim When On The Ground

Although players in Red Dead can't expect to leap through the air while firing their guns Max Payne-style, dodging is still an essential element of gunplay and something all should master during their time online. Point being, if you find yourself exposed in the open, and a shot whizzes past your ear or - worse yet - actually hits you, hold 'L2' and press 'square' or 'X'. Repeat the process until you find the source of the gunfire, and try to time the end of your dodge when the enemy player has to either pull back their hammer, or even better has to reload.
Consult earlier advice about nailing headshots, and you should find the odds in your favour in no time at all. Of course, you'll want to have the right tools for the trade, and you'll find yourself in a spot of bother if you're using a revolver against a repeater, which is why you'll want to invest in the following weapon as soon as possible...
