This is something that not many players seem to have grasped, but when playing Name your Poison, you should almost always be using the tomahawk.

Of course, there are situations where a long-range engagement will call for you to whip out the basic repeater or revolver, but if you happen to be close by to an enemy, it's worth dying if you get the chance of killing someone with a tomahawk.

Whether it's thrown or you manage to hack someone in close quarters, you'll be rewarded with six points. Even if someone kills you in the process, whether it be with a revolver or - in most cases - a repeater, you'll still have a four-five point advantage over your opponent. Factor in the addition of the train in the team-based variation of the game mode, which gifts an explosive bow that nets you nine points-per-kill, and it only becomes even more apparent that you should be using these kinds of weapons in the mode.

Having your tomahawk equipped will also make those dastardly melee encounters much easier. Mashing 'circle' or 'B' repeatedly with either knife or axe equipped will give you an instant advantage, and reward you with a further six points should you manage to bury the hatchet into your opponent.
