Red Dead Redemption 2: Everything We Know So Far

While the first RDR tehcnically had more than one playable character, it was very much a game about one man's story rather than an ensemble piece.

Going forward however it looks as though the sequel will be taking a page out of GTA V's book by having more than one controllable character for the bulk of its main campaign.

It makes sense too: if Red Dead Redemption 2 is about John's outlaw gang rather than John himself, then it's easy to see why the developers would carry over their vision of multiple playable characters to the sequel.

Plus, having more controllable protagonists gives players the ability and freedom to approach the game however they want. It always felt weird in Redemption to make Marston kill people in cold blood or rob banks as it went against the entire point of his story, but with different characters all with different personalities, this player-driven gameplay would more easily mesh with the tone of the story.
