Red Dead Redemption 2 Gameplay Trailer: 11 MAJOR Changes You Need To Know

3. Melee Animations

Barring the cult-favourite adaptation of The Warriors, Rockstar don't really have a glowing resume when it comes to melee combat. It's usually very basic, requiring one or two button presses, but that looks to be changing with RDR2, as Rockstar bring a troff of new animations, weapons and more to those more personal encounters players will find in the wild.

Whereas before all your protagonist could do was punch and hogtie the occasional enemy, now they can stab, charge, and get stuck in chokeholds. It's a major step-up compared to what we've seen before, both in terms of it being visceral and intuitive, and it's likely to give players pause for thought on how they tackle a given scenario.

Now, stealth could actually be a viable option. It remains to be seen as to whether or not that'll be the case, but still, at least combat is looking better than it has ever looked before (in a Rockstar game).
