A criminal so revolting that even his fellow outlaws resent him, Leopold Strauss is a special type of evil. Instead of gunning down his victims or raising hell across towns, Strauss is in the business of lending money to desperate people he knows either can't or won't pay it back, then calling in someone like Arthur to forcefully take whatever they have left as repayment.

After completing a bunch of these "debt collector" missions for Strauss, Arthur eventually gets sick of the destruction he's caused to relatively innocent people, and forcefully kicks the money lender out the gang.

Charles reveals to John in the epilogue that Strauss was eventually tracked down by the Pinkertons and interrogated, where he died in custody. However, despite being kicked out, he stayed loyal to the end, leaving this mortal coil without confessing anything about his former companions.
