Red Dead Redemption: Who Should Play Who In A Live Action Adaptation

3. John Marston - Ben Barnes

Red Dead Redemption 2 Jon Bernthal
HBO

The Character: The main protagonist from the first RDR, and secondary protagonist in RDR2. In the first game, he was a family man forced back into the frontier to save the ones he loved. In the second, we are introduced to a younger, more impressionable John, whose callous attitude to his responsibilities morphs with every chapter.

As Arthur makes preparations in the lead up to his death, everything hinges on John, Abigail and Jack getting away from Dutch's reach. Knowing Arthur died so John could live brings emotional weight to both characters, and it's made all the more devastating given the ending to the first RDR.

The Actor: Despite being older than what Marston is supposed to be, Ben Barnes is blessed with a decent enough youthful complexion that he could pull off a pretty good John Martson.

Barnes might be more known to mainstream audiences as Prince Caspian from the Chronicles of Narnia Films, but his role as Billy Russo in The Punisher and Logan Delos in Westworld prove he can play both dutiful hero, and tragic villain/anti-hero.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
