Resident Evil 2: 7 Ups & 3 Downs
5. Up: It Illustrates The Need For More Remade Classics
Nowadays, many publishers seek to just remaster games from previous generations as it's far less commitment for just as much potential profit. After all, many remasters are minimal effort affairs where some textures are polished and shined to look somewhat current gen, then it's sent out the door for (often) full price.
Gamers deserve better than that, and Resident Evil 2 serves as an example of how a studio who's committed to redefining a classic title can make something special. Going beyond simply introducing new players to a title that came out before they picked up a controller, these publishers could make great games reach quality levels that simply weren't possible initially thanks to modern tech.
Capcom's achievement with RE2 should express to these major publishers that remakes may utilize far more time and resources, but the payoff is clearly apparent. So many franchises from decades ago have been lost to time, and if companies look to this great example, they could bring back some beloved IPs. All in all, it'd be a win for both players and publishers.
