Resident Evil 2: 9 Things To Look Forward To
7. Same Story, Re-Imagined
Before the RE series got too bogged down with various story paths, super-powered antagonists and boulder punching shenanigans, the story of the first three games was a relatively straightforward tale.
Set against the backdrop of God-playing scientists and viral outbreaks, expanding on the lore of the first game, RE2 continued the "what if" scenario of an expanded infection in the city...as well as scientists gone wrong.
Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi has stated the game is not a shot for shot remake, and that the team have tried to "capture the spirit of the original [game]". So whilst not a deviation from the original, it's likely that the story will be catered around the light reboot that was Resident Evil 7. Characters and events remain the same, but don't expect any of the original corny dialogue.
With improved graphics and voice acting in gaming, comes the prolific use of motion capture and in-game narrative (as opposed to older style FMV's). Last year's God of War being a prime example, this time we'll see more characterisation and depth from the cast, and no more "Jill Sandwich" cheesiness.
