Resident Evil 2: 9 Things To Look Forward To

5. "You've Gotta Shoot 'Em In The Head!"

As mentioned in the brilliant Shaun of the Dead, the only way to destroy a Z-word is by "removing the head or destroying the brain". That in itself is a common trope in zombie games/films, but it seems like Capcom has tweaked that slightly.

With the new camera perspective comes free aiming, unlike the original's limited options of neutral/high/low. Subsequently, it makes killing the undead harder. Whereas a single shot should fell a foe, it seems that this would be too easy an option and make the game a breeze.

Instead, Capcom have had some fun with. Headshots will significantly damage a zombie, but each shot reacts differently to where it lands and what weapon is used. It makes for more of an emphasis on ammo conservation, putting the "survival" back into the survival horror aspect Resident Evil was famous for.

Another example is the Licker. As mentioned in the prior example, they don't like fire. So it evokes the tactical preservation of flame grenades and such against a group of them, but that means leaving yourself vulnerable to more than one Licker at a time.

Gone is the action standard of later titles, for a much more tense feel the series first created.
