Resident Evil 3: 10 Major CHANGES From The Original
6. No Mercenaries: Operation Mad Jackal
The Mercenaries is a minigame that's shown up in a load of different Resident Evil games, and was so popular that it even got a standalone release a few years back.
In that, players control one of several characters (differentiated by item loadouts), fighting enemies and collecting time bonuses in an arena until time runs out.
Resident Evil 3 is where Mercenaries started, and it's a different experience.
Choosing one of the three UBCS members, players had to make it from one part of the game map to another within two minutes. Fail, and the character died. They could gain extra time by killing monsters, although that could easily take longer than the time bonus given, and there were multipliers for successive kills.
Survivors could be found, and rescuing them from death gave players higher time rewards. After either completing the game or dying, players were rewarded with money based on their progress, and this could be saved up to buy infinite ammunition weapons for the main game.
It has been confirmed that The Mercenaries won't be appearing in the remake, although we've seen that some aspects seem to have been built into the main game.
