Resident Evil 3 Remake: 10 Reasons Why It Sucks
8. Puzzles Lacking Any Challenge
One of the biggest criticisms of last year's title was the "dumbing down" of many of the series' iconic puzzle moments.
So surely you'd think Capcom, in their infinite wisdom, would have saved or at least modernised the memorable ones from 1999's Resident Evil 3?
Nope.
What's more, they've removed the locales these head scratchers were established in.
The music box puzzle, in which you needed to pick the right tone has gone, as has the clock tower itself (more on that later).
Or for those who thought they'd suppressed it, the water balancing conundrum has been entirely removed. You don't go anywhere near a water plant.
Even the final puzzle, in which you need to mix a vaccine is insultingly easy. No really, I'm not acting like a Mensa candidate, it's a doddle.
Combine two vials, insert into said vaccine machine, hit a few buttons to balance the fluid levels.
That's it!
What makes Resident Evil great is its subtle blend of lateral thinking and extreme violence.
Removing the puzzle element is to remove a core part of what makes the franchise what it was.
