Resident Evil 3 Remake: One Detail NOBODY Is Talking About

In the RE1 remake, Lisa Trevor was the daughter of George Trevor, and has a long tragic story before she is encountered by the S.T.A.R.S. in the Spencer Mansion. After her father was killed, she and her mother were taken prisoner by Umbrella and relentlessly tested on. Here is where she became the first human to survive the infection tests of the Progenitor Virus.

As her tests continued within the Arklay research facility over the span of eleven years, she regained elements of her humanity and thus became enraged with her existence. After the mansion incident, she has one last encounter with Barry Burton and Jill Valentine, only to throw herself to her death, after discovering the corpse of her mother.

Briefly though, before throwing herself over the edge of the abyss... she cries out in agony with broken speech “Mo... ther…"

This one moment can entirely influence how we look at the T-Virus, as her mutations from the Progenitor Virus were used to help create that and the G-Virus. Necrosis takes over the host's body and the incredibly unstoppable need to feed ensues, leaving the host to become nothing more than an empty vessel from who they were.

All of this shows that if a host has a great enough desire, they can hold onto small fragments of humanity in the next life and stages of infection. Lisa Trevor never tried to eat Chris, Jill or Brad - she was just trying to find her mother after all this time.

Lisa also doesn’t die after that fall, and is finally stopped by Albert Wesker, moments before the Spencer Mansion explodes.

The question remains then: Was it the combined strength of the viruses that kept Lisa going, or was it the latent humanity left inside and a need to avenge her mother?

Though it must also be noted that in both versions of Resident Evil 1, Jill or Chris can find a journal kept by an Umbrella employee responsible for the Arklay Laboratory's and preparing animals for experimentation. This follows the decent of someone infected by the T-Virus and eventually just ends with the simple words, "Itchy Tasty".

So this shows us that not everyone succumbs to the virus in the same way and the keep of the diary might have well been zombified before the last entry was written.
