Resident Evil 6: 10 Reasons It’s The Death of the Franchise

4. The Standard Design

Gaming franchises that do well, I mean really well, are always, perhaps obviously, the ones that innovate, that offer something you just can€™t get anywhere else (case in point: GTA). Unfortunately, Resident Evil is no longer one of those titles. It was, years ago, back when it was fathering the survival horror genre. But it simply no longer is. Nothing is new in the Resident Evil franchise anymore; nothing has changed, really, from the last two titles (and the peripheral games, like the aforementioned Operation Raccoon City). The one thing that has €“ B.O.W€™s that return fire €“ makes the series conform even more heavily to what Capcom think is popular amongst today€™s gamers. In my honest opinion, unless Capcom manage another complete series overhaul for the next game, if RE6 isn€™t the final nail in the coffin, RE7 will be, at least for the more discerning player.
