Resident Evil 6: 10 Reasons It’s The Death of the Franchise

3. Too Many People To Please

RE6 is a bit of a jack of all trades, but a master of none. It wants to please everybody; it wants to return the series to its roots with Leon€™s zombie-themed campaign; it wants to appease the shooter fans by including Gears of War elements; it wants to satisfy those that prefer the original while simultaneously addressing those that dig the action focus. If I learned one thing from watching The Apprentice religiously, it€™s that if you try to satisfy everyone, you run the major risk of inadvertently satisfying no one. I think this is what Capcom have rather amateurishly done with Resident Evil 6 €“ there€™s a little bit for everyone, but not really enough to satisfy. I guess those are the dangers of producing a long running franchise; with so many people clinging to their preferred elements, their expectations of what should happen next, Capcom really are treading a tightrope. I think the weight of all these expectations will be the thing to bring Resident Evil to its knees, if it isn€™t with 6 (we€™ll have to wait for the first round of figures to come in), it€™ll be soon afterwards.
