Resident Evil 6: Where It Will Succeed and Fail

The Bad

Action focus

While the previous point about classic RE gameplay, the other two campaigns aren't as good. Chris' campaign features zombies with guns. Seriously, WTF? There is constant explosions and gunfire, not good for a horror/survival game. Jake's campaign features a great cinematic intro, then some random shooting and killing through Shanghai. I wouldn't mind this if the action was good, but it isn't. Poor controls and a horrible cover system don't help the subpar action sequences, and half the time I found myself wondering what the hell was going on. Leon's section features one real action part, a quick time event involving the pair stealing a police car. The other two levels are relentless to the point of almost boredom. Resident Evil's past set the bar for survival games, and games like Gears of War are the best shooters around. Resident Evil 6 is not a good shooter, but it wants to be. It can have it's controls, cover system and inventory, but keep the all out warfare out please. While it is obvious that RE6 takes inspiration from any military game, as said by the producer, we had no idea it was going to be this bad. Let's hope Ada's campaign is much better. Another thing: the melee combat. RE4 and 5 required you to shoot an enemy is the right spot before you could attack him with your bare hands, but RE6 has a melee button. Aside from being out of place, it rarely ever works and most of the time you just kick right past a zombies head. It's not useless and there are some good animations, but I'll take RE5 combat over this anyday.

I live in Australia, love to write and play games. So what better than writing about games? I love all things action and fantasy, as well as my occasional shooter. I literally cannot wait for GTAV!
