Resident Evil 7: 10 Big Rumours That Would Save The Franchise

8. Could It Be The Last Game In The Series?

It may seem strange to suggest that Resident Evil 7 being the final game in the series would help save the franchise, but it may be the only way to protect the Resident Evil legacy. If Capcom continues to release action-heavy flops, eventually the series will be better known for its later, poorer games than the early titles that pioneered the survival horror genre. There's also the small fact that RE7 is often accompanied with the tagline, €œThe war ends now,€ which has driven rumours that the next game will indeed be a swan-song. If true, this would also help prevent the series suffering from an increasingly convoluted storyline, although developers could continue to use spin-off games like the Revelations titles to fill-in any existing plot holes and ring the last drops out of the franchise. Resident Evil 7 doesn€™t necessarily need to kill-off the series, but if they get it right, this could well be the perfect opportunity for it to go out on a high.
