Resident Evil 7: 10 Controversial Things It Can Learn From 6

2. Skill Tree And Customisation

The €˜shop€™ of games gone by was fun, the Merchant from Resident Evil 4 being the real pinnacle of this feature, but the addition of a skill tree and character customisation in 6 really modernised the series and made it more in line with audience expectations. With this feature in 6, players could use skill points earned in-game to upgrade and customise their characters, supplying them with certain traits like faster reloads or steadier aim, or more generally buying and improving weaponry. There were individual traits and skills to be unlocked and used as well, meaning no one character was the same. Side game modes, such as the well-received Mercenaries, allowed for further and easier unlocking of skill points. In a gaming market where replayability and consumer choice are prioritised, 7 has to carry this element from 6 into its own game.
