Resident Evil 7 - 10 Crippling Issues Capcom Need To Fix

10. No Quick Time Events (QTEs)

When the QTE was first popularised in SEGA's stunning Shenmue series, it felt like an integral part of the game. Cutscenes truly felt interactive and, in many cases, the course of the scene would be altered depending on how you fared with your reflex-based button bashing. Naturally they started appearing in practically every game under the sun thereafter and the Resident Evil series was no exception. Resi 4 was where they made their first real appearance and, despite the fact that most scenes that featured them resulted in death for failure, they were pulled off fairly well - even giving players a classic moment for the series thanks to the knife battle with Krauser. Ever since then their use has been...underwhelming, to say the least. Rather than being an important part of the gameplay, they have either been reduced to the "Press X to not die" trope or shoehorned in to make a scene just that extra bit pointless (Leon fiddling with car keys, anyone?). Simply put, they have become an inconvenience rather than a method for raising tension, and Capcom would do well to simply do away with the concept entirely unless they can think up some better uses.
