Resident Evil 7: Biohazard - The Baker Family Explained

Whilst the mother and father of the Baker family might deserve some of the player's sympathy, their son, Lucas, doesn't deserve a single shred. A total psychopath in the making, Lucas utilised his high intelligence to create sinister traps he could lure those who he didn't like to, with his traps becoming more outlandish and even deadlier as he got older.

With his insanity coming from a deformity in his brain that had been identified by a doctor, there are a couple of things that seem to trigger Lucas moreso than anything else, with birthdays being the most obvious in the game. Such invention, insanity and lust for killing would find a perfect home when Eveline arrived at the Baker house, though most players could have probably deduced that Lucas wasn't infected like Jack or Marguerite, or not as badly at least.

Lucas had actually been infected by Eveline for almost a year prior to the game, but had been contacted and cured by the company that had created the child, The Connections. In return for a serum that would cure him of Eveline's control, and the promise of a blind eye to the experiments and games he would play in the home, Lucas would spy on his family and report on the effects of Eveline on both Jack and Marguerite, essentially acting and playing a part in front of the child whenever she appeared.

Whilst he certainly wasn't 'normal' during the events of Biohazard, Lucas was at least totally free of mind as the horrors of the game unfolded, willingly watching on as his family became more and more monstrous and using the opportunity to perfect his own sick games and experiments.

He really was one bad egg.

Whilst his fate at the end of the main storyline is left up in the air, with some of the Umbrella reports claiming he had fled out to the salt mines, players do at least have the opportunity to bring his antics to an end in the Not a Hero DLC. After attempting to send an email to an unknown third party about the Eveline experiment, he attacks Chris Redfield in the DLC's finale, mutating into a hideous Molded creature after being shot in the chest. Players are able to destroy this final form of the Baker son after the final phase of the showdown, bringing an end to one of the most sadistic foes the Resident Evil franchise has ever thrown up.
