Perhaps the most tantalising rumour released so far - or certainly the weirdest - is that the new game is going to "borrow" aspects from the 'Hookman' build of Resident Evil 4. Otherwise know as Resident Evil 3.5, this was the version that attempted to take the series down a supernatural-oriented lane, set in a gothic castle and featuring Leon being haunted by a ghostly apparition with a hook for a hand.

It was eventually scrapped, but when the sequel was first shown off, it was this footage that fans saw. Like the thrown-out build of Resident Evil 1.5 before it, this version went down in legend, with fans pondering what could have been. They might finally get their wish of seeing this iteration being realised in some form though, as the developers are allegedly looking at some of the more innovative elements found in the Hookman trailers for inspiration.

Unfortunately, the actual monster himself doesn't look like he'll make an appearance, but Capcom would be missing a trick if he didn't show up for at least a cameo.
