Resident Evil 8: Every Confirmed & Leaked Detail You Need To Know

In its long development, Resident Evil 4 went through several iterations that didn't see the light of day. In one of these, Leon was going to be infected for the majority of the game and drop into hallucinations where the environment would change and he would be chased by an un-killable pursuer.

At the time, the hallucination gameplay was unfeasible to create as intended because it meant that the Gamecube would have had to hold two versions of each environment in memory at the same time and flick between them on the fly. Spiralling development costs caused Capcom to abandon their attempts to work around the constraints of the system, and we eventually ended up with a different version of RE4.

The earliest leak for Resident Evil 8 informed us that hallucinations would return, keeping the player from being sure what was real and what is fantasy. Following on from that earlier reveal, the latest leak mentions a ghostly female who can follow the player around and, while she can be temporarily dissipated with a gunshot, cannot actually be killed. Blending supernatural style scares with the science of the series, this Dark Lady is likely to cause plenty of jump scares, and even some panic if she can only be dissipated with a certain weapon.

If we're controlling Ethan, then it's likely that this Dark Lady may be some remnant of his connection to Eveline, or even a manifestation of his survivor's guilt after Mia's death.
