Resident Evil 8 Village Review: 8 Ups & 2 Downs
2. Resident Evil Has Never Looked Or Sounded This Good
In the Triple-A space, for the most part, games have looked phenomenal for a while now. And after Capcom moved on from the MT Framework engine, you could easily argue their latest RE engine holds up with the best of them.
Four or so games later, Capcom has come out swinging. This game really is a graphical showpiece, and a new benchmark in terms of visual and audio design. Pretty much anything you could want is on offer here, unlike the limited scope of RE7.
The village itself is coated in a blanket of snow, which satisfyingly crunches with every footstep. Then with Castle Dimitrescu rooms feel warm and welcoming, when you know they truly aren’t.
The only way to get the full experience is with a decent set of headphones. That way you can truly appreciate being hunted by Lady Dimitrescu or hordes of Lycans.
Winds will also whistle through the trees, leaving those unsure if they are being stalked once again. Combine that with the ambient sounds of the castle chambers, and this game will utterly consume you at times.
