Resident Evil 8 Village Review: 8 Ups & 2 Downs
1. This Is The Future Of Resident Evil
Now before anybody gets too excited, that doesn’t mean that Resident Evil games down the line can’t be third person. Instead, I'm talking about the presentation of the entire game. From the story, all the way to the enemy design, this game delivers and is essential for the industry going forward.
We just don’t get that many big-budget horror games, and Capcom are really using the brand of Resident Evil to experiment, whilst at the same time staying loyal to games' past. Few other franchises have been going as long as this, and even less have managed to keep a coherent narrative going.
That alone is something to be applauded. Resident Evil 8 is an example of sequels done right.
So many times, Capcom could just go back the well, but they pretty much never do.
Yeah, sure this game shares the same DNA with others and uses recognisable traits, though this is all done in new and interesting ways. Who would’ve thought that the Nemesis-style pursuer enemy could one day be a nine foot tall vampire lady, or that the merchant could be an integral character to the entire experience?
The devs over at Capcom know what they are doing, and with the recent run games of Resident Evil games, the franchise has never been in a better place.
