Resident Evil 8 Village: Story & Ending Explained

Daughter of Mia and Ethan Winters, Rosemary (or Rose for short) was pulled into this unwillingly by those around her, thanks in part to her being a newborn as the eighth Resident Evil opens - though after she's taken by Chris Redfield in a shady manner, events only escalate from there.

Apparently, Ethan is the only one not aware of how special his daughter truly is and the powers that Rose possesses, even though she is the offspring of two people formally infected by the Mold that tormented them back in Louisiana. Told over again by The Duke and later Heisenberg, we come to learn that this is all about Rose.

What comes as a great shock, Rose has been cut up and split between four jars, then handed to each of the Four Lords. Some technique by Mother Miranda to harness her powers, Rose is eventually reformed, but not as Eva, which was Miranda's grand plan all along. It's what happens after the credits that is the real surprise.

Now grown up into what looks like her early to mid-teens, Rosemary Winters is alive and well on a bus reading the book her mother used to read whilst she was a baby. Visiting her father's grave just after his birthday, she's clearly avoiding her caretakers just to see where Ethan rests.

This doesn't last long, as Rose is found and goes back with what looks like a government secret service of some kind; though she lets the man know his place, and that she could do things that Chris doesn't even know about. So she doesn't look as if she's being held captive, but at the same time doesn't look so happy about being followed all the time.
