Resident Evil Nemesis EXPLAINED - Origins & Meaning
Trying To Make The Perfect Tyrant
The Tyrant programme didn't just hit the ground running after Umbrella had taken everything they learned from Dr Marcus' research, the horrific testing on Lisa Trevor and the perfect DNA from a many-times-cloned Sergei Vladimir.
The T-001 Model - better known as the Proto Tyrant - was indeed the first to ever be produced. Players come across this Frankenstein's Monster as Rebecca Chambers encounters one deep within the Arkley Training Facility, but thankfully for her, this type was in such an early stage, it never put up much of a fight.
In terms of Resident Evil 0, this boss helps save the game from utterly flatlining when it comes to a boss lineup. While being similar to the T-001, the Proto Tyrant had massive claw instead of a right hand, but just looked, well, unfinished. Like the common zombies and zombie dogs, necrosis was covering this undead clone, leading it to be abandoned and improved upon later.
The T-002 was the next stage in evolution for the Tyrant Programme, and this one yielded much more promising results.
Like the previous model, it also had an enlarged mutated heart which had outgrown the body - a handy weakness when it came to killing it.
After the S.T.A.R.S members, Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield and Barry Burton make it to the secret laboratory under the Spencer Mansion, they are greeted by, as Wesker put it, "The ultimate lifeform":
Though this magnificent creation would almost instantly turn on Wesker; stabbing him through the abdomen to escape its containment pod, with that, the Tyrant Virus had leaked and polluted the entire facility.
The T-002 proved to yet again not put up much of a fight as it was rather quickly despatched by the remaining members of S.T.A.R.S. - with thanks to a quad rocket launcher. It was slow and didn't have the intelligence required to fulfil its potential in a combat situation, but this didn't mean Umbrella wouldn't take another crack at it.
