Resident Evil: Ranking Every Major Protagonist Worst To Best

3. Chris Redfield

Chris Redfield is so good partly because of how so bland he could have been. While he was a little one-note in the original game, with his story not quite matching the quality of Jill's, the character grew into his own over subsequent sequels, particularly in the fifth release.

Though many had issues with the plot of that follow up, it was the perfect fit for an all-American hero like Chris. More straight-laced than the wisecracking figure Leon eventually became, Redfield essentially morphed into The Rock as the series wore on, which more than fit the stories he headlined.

It's been mocked, but in the context of the game, it makes total sense that Chris would be the kinda guy who would punch a boulder twice the size of himself to get it moving. Some fans dislike the action-oriented route the series eventually took, but it would have been so much worse if Chris wasn't there to shoulder the transition.
