Resident Evil Remaster: 10 Things Newcomers Need To Know

9. Mo' Puzzles, Mo' Problems

Puzzles are an integral part of the Resident Evil experience and the REmake expanded on the original title by adding a whole bunch more, including a new examine feature which encouraged players to check every item they acquire for hidden secrets. A great example of this is found on a jewellery box that the player discovers and examining which in the menu reveals a new puzzle, which is required to open the case. Inside is one of the Death Masks used to open up a path in the Mansion's Graveyard. In short, examining items is key to progressing through the game. In fact, revisiting the game some ten years after it was first created highlights just how important puzzles are to the original Resident Evil. Even the Mansion itself is one giant puzzle, full of locked doors, weaving corridors and multiple floors: relearning the layout and memorising the various paths is essential to avoid getting lost. First timers to the game (especially those raised on the action-packed modern Resi games) will probably be pretty shocked at the number of puzzles found in the Spencer Mansion. Completing the REmake requires a healthy dose of brainpower, sadly, something that very few games can say nowadays.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
