Resident Evil Remaster: 10 Things Newcomers Need To Know

8. No More Jill Sandwiches

Those who still have fond memories of the PlayStation classic may remember that the most horrifying aspect of Resident Evil was never the zombies: it was the B-Movie script and voice acting that really left deep scars. Despite being highly memorable and amusing, lines featuring phrases like "the master of unlocking" don't really scream top quality writing. For the REmake, Capcom completely rewrote the script for the game and hired voice actors who actually sound professional. The plot is still largely the same (a few characters from later instalments are mentioned in order to tie the series together) but the writing is massively improved. Rather than laughing at ridiculous lines, the player can actually become enthralled in the twisting plot. Don't fret though: Resident Evil didn't go totally serious. In one scene, Barry bizarrely describes a set of Acid Rounds for the Grenade Launcher as a "can of fizz" - right. Many of the lines were rewritten with nods to the old script too; after escaping a collapsing room, Barry remarks that, instead of becoming a Jill Sandwich, Jill would instead have "been flat enough to fit into a sandwich". The original Resident Evil's dialogue is legendary for all the wrong reasons: the REmake successfully captures the spirit of the PlayStation title but leaves out most of the embarrassment. It's for the best.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
