Resident Evil Remaster: 10 Things Newcomers Need To Know

3. Getting Around Has Never Been Easier

One of the most common problems with the original Resident Evil games is the 'tank' controls which plagued the early days of the series. Before analogue, moving characters around a 3D environment was tough and these controls served a purpose then. Now, with the advent of the analogue stick, they're massively dated and make the original games somewhat frustrating to play. The REmake also suffers with this problem but thankfully, for the remastering, Capcom revisited the controls and made them far easier to negotiate. The analogue stick works flawlessly with Jill and Chris, allowing the player to move them fluidly through the environment, rather than having to awkwardly spin on the spot and run stiffly straight. Does this break the game? Does it make things less tense? Absolutely not. It actually makes things a bit fairer, especially in the early going. Before, being pinned at one end of a hallway by a zombie would have been trouble for all but the most veteran of Resi players. It's still tough to outmaneuver and dodge the shuffling horrors but at least everybody stands a chance now; the controls will no longer be getting the blame if the player is getting munched on too often.
