Resident Evil Village: 5 Best Parts (And 5 That Sucked)
1. WORST: Resident Evil STILL Doesn't Know What It Is
Resident Evil has one of the most loyal and, at times, rabid fan bases in gaming. Due to its longevity and ability to roll with the times, there are different fans for different era’s with many old school fans feeling that the franchise lost its way.
Even with the franchise seemingly returning to its roots of late, Capcom has still continued to divide fans by chasing the online PvP shooter market with 2020's ill-fated Resident Evil: Resistance, and the poorly received beta for the upcoming Resident Evil RE: Verse.
Capcom continue to try and chase a market that clearly doesn’t exist.
The average Resident Evil fan isn’t interested in online shooters, and the crowd that are interested in those games are more likely to stick to a game they already know; CoD, Fortnite, Overwatch, etc.
Capcom’s continued persistence of this market, along with the way Village features areas as wildly opposed as the puzzle-based Beneviento House and the action-heavy onslaught of Heisenberg’s Factory make it fairly clear that Capcom still aren’t sure on which direction to take their franchise, and are continuing to try and be all things to all people.
Depending on your viewpoint, this could actually be a good thing. In true psychological fashion, it all depends if you view the glass as half full or half empty.
