One of the biggest criticisms that older games level at modern game design is that it usually feels like you are being held by the hand throughout. Resident Evil 4, 5 and 6 often felt like they were just long corridors where you moved your character forward constantly. This also included the erasure of the puzzles and exploration elements that had been so prevalent in earlier games in the series.

Village doesn’t hold your hand, allowing you to instead allowing you to explore at your leisure and offering you just enough clues to help you piece together yourself what you need to do.

Much like the original back in 1996, Village presents you with a huge hub area in which many areas are locked off at first. The player has to explore and find keys to help expand the map and unlock new areas.

Village also hides multiple treasures around the map for which you will have to complete what are essentially side quests in order to get them. Lastly, RE Village features three optional boss fights, adding to the need to investigate each location fully.
