We all love a good easter egg or throwback to the classic lore. Wanting to tie the plots of VII and VIII into the history of the series more, Village includes a file which reveals that Umbrella founder Ozwell E. Spencer had some form of relationship with Mother Miranda.

The file reveals that he used the symbol on the Village’s religious altar as the symbol of the Umbrella Corporation, and that Miranda offered him immortality using the megamycete (the source of the mold).

Where this defeats the canon is small but crucial.

Spencer’s key goal was to achieve immortality. He initially turned down Miranda’s offer because he wanted a way to infect the entire world, intending to rule over the new world as a god.

This is all well and good, but when we look back to Lost In Nightmares, we see that Spencer ended his life as a decrepit and desperate man. So… why wouldn’t he contact Miranda at that point and accept her offer to become immortal? Surely, he could have worried about the rest of the world later?

It's a small issue that in no way takes away from how good the game is, but a niggling nitpick that will bother some fans.
