Rise Of The Tomb Raider: 10 Killer Features It Must Have

7. An Engaging Storyline

The rebooted Tomb Raider went in an interesting direction as far as storyline was concerned, taking young Lara off to Yamatai, which sounded almost like a fantasy island that they had made up specifically for the game. But it wasn€™t so; both the island and Queen Himiko are in the historical record and are just as much of a mystery as the game suggested, with scholars only theorising about where the nation was located. Fortunately, the writer for the storyline of the previous game is returning for Rise; Rhianna Pratchett is the daughter of acclaimed fantasy writer Terry Pratchett and has a horde of video game writing credits. For the last game she did an extensive range of research in order to bring Yamatai to life and based on the snowy wilderness and the type of bear seen in the teaser trailer it€™ll be interesting to see whether the action is set in either Canada or Russia. A Canadian setting seems a great deal likelier than a Russian one as the scenery would normally dictate Siberia - and there probably isn't a ancient civilisation hiding around there. But it€™ll take a quality writer like Pratchett to draw out something from the location that is greater than straightforward exploration to create a memorable set of levels, as this is something she did to great effect in the last game.
