Satoru Iwata - 10 Iconic Nintendo Games You Should Play As Tribute

3. Super Smash Bros. Melee

Of course, Mario Kart isn't the only great multiplayer game to have Iwata's stamp on it, as the Super Smash Bros titles were also heavily influenced. While he acted as Producer on the original title - with Iwata himself reciting a story about how he purchased Ocarina of Time on his way back from wrapping up the launch of this game - it was with Melee that the series truly blossomed. At this point Iwata was working as the President of Nintendo, but that didn't stop him literally getting hands on with the development of Melee, more than he did with most games he acted as Executive Producer for. As the game approached its release date, the development team were still struggling with a few bugs that looked likely to result in the game being pushed back so they could be fixed. Instead of lambasting his team, Iwata took it upon himself to work on the code personally and, over the course of three months, almost single-handedly eradicated every major bug that the game had. The result was a game that not only came out on time, but was also of immense quality.
