Now we come to a real fan favourite, with the first winged colossus, Avion, which can only be reached after performing some light swimming and platforming.

It might take you a moment to figure this one out - you have to wilfully allow him to swoop at you, make a timed jump onto his fur and hold on tight - but it's an astonishing moment when it clicks for the first time.

It can be a little frustrating losing your grip on the creature and spending a minute or two preparing to scale it again, but, at this point in the game it offers an experience like nothing else, and is not only one of the game's top-tier fights, but an all-timer in video game history.
