Insomniac’s Spider-Man is already, in the eyes of many a fan, the definitive Spider-Man game.
It feels especially fitting, then, that Insomniac made every effort to pay homage to another beloved Spider-Man game, the 2004 Spider-Man 2 movie tie-in. There’s a nod to the infamous balloon-fetching side mission, a comical tribute to the Mysterio boss fight, and a pizza parlour playing a very familiar song.
Located just North-West of Chinatown’s ‘Smog Alert’ research station is Leo’s Italian restaurant, a building where if a player were to hang around outside for long enough, would be greeted to the nightmare-haunting theme from Spider-Man 2’s pizza delivery mini game.
One of the most frustrating side missions ever, seeing such a deliberate tribute to the bane of many a childhood is further proof that Insomniac has at least a few team members who must share the same nostalgic rage at trying to salvage those damn pizzas.
