Spider-Man PS4: 10 Problems The Sequel MUST Fix
1. Repetitive Crime Encounters
By far the biggest complaint from players was directed at the random crime encounters that occurred during freeroaming sessions. Random encounters within an open world game isn’t exactly a new concept, so their inclusion in the game came as no surprise, but the execution left a lot to be desired.
As the game progresses, four different factions become available and cause havoc across the city. Each faction would trigger five crimes across a map section, giving players twenty encounters for each small area. Due to the sheer number of occurrences within the game, players were often distracted from the main story for long periods of time.
The frequency of random encounters wasn’t the only issue players had. The tasks were incredibly repetitive, with around five actual tasks across every encounter. Granted the premise for each task would be slightly different, but from breaking up a drug deal to stopping a car chase, each task boiled down to the same few core concepts.
If Insomniac choose to continue the open world setting in the next game, it would be beneficial to include a varied selection of random encounters. Either that, or decrease how often they pop up to avoid players growing tired of the same thing.
